Considerations and Troubleshooting

Your virtual card is accepted online anywhere Visa or Mastercard debit/credit is taken. As this is a global product, there is no definitive list of merchants that accept this product as Visa or Mastercard is widely accepted globally.

However, certain types of merchants do not support digital prepaid cards. The following is not an exhaustive list but is a guide on general acceptance.

  • Allowed: Online shopping, bill payments, digital streaming, and app stores
  • Unsupported Merchants & Transactions:
    • In-Store / Physical Terminals: Unless you add the card to Apple Pay/Google Pay (if supported by the issuer), it cannot be swiped or dipped at a physical register
    • Recurring Subscriptions & Memberships: Automated recurring billing platforms often decline prepaid cards due to variable balance risks.
    • Financial & Cash Equivalent Transfers: Money transfer apps (PayPal, Venmo, Cash App), buying cryptocurrency, or purchasing wire transfers/other gift cards
    • Financial Institutions: Merchandise and Services eg. loans, credit related services, manual cash disbursements
    • Non-Financial Institutions: Foreign currency, money orders, traveler’s checks, Quasi-cash, store value card purchase/loan
    • Security Brokers and Dealers
    • Gambling & Restricted Goods: Online casinos, sports betting, lotteries, government owned lotteries, adult services, or firearm purchases
    • Motion Pictures and Video Tape Production and Distribution
    • Holds & Authorizations: Hotels, car rentals, and gas station pumps that place dynamic authorization holds exceeding your card balance

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Declined at Online Checkout:

  • Ensure the purchase total (including taxes and shipping) does not exceed the card balance. Digital prepaid cards cannot be split across multiple payment methods automatically.
  • Verify that the billing address you enter on the merchant website matches the exact address you registered during redemption.
  • Account for “Pending Holds” or Hidden Fees as some merchants run a temporary $1/$2 test charge to verify the card. If this hidden hold pushes the total above your balance, the payment fails. Try lowering your purchase amount slightly
  • Some merchants often place a 20% automatic hold on top of the bill to anticipate tips, fees or any other incidentals. Avoid using your eGift card at these locations unless your balance heavily covers the extra buffer.
  • Merchant Restrictions: Some websites outright block all generic prepaid cards to protect themselves from fraud. Some merchants outright block all generic prepaid cards to protect themselves from fraud.

Invalid Code Error: Double-check that you are redeeming the code on the provider's portal (My Prepaid Center or Prepaid Digital Solutions) and not directly inside a store’s promo code box at checkout.

Lost Access to Card Details: Re-open your original reward email and click the retrieval link, or log in to your provider account to view your active virtual card.

If your code fails to redeem or your transaction keeps declining, contact the provider listed on your card portal:
