Settings: Policy Center

  • Updated

The Policy Center is a centralized hub for admins to set and manage gifting rules across your entire organization, or down to specific teams, all from one place.

Whether you want to block personal email domains from receiving gifts, or want to make sure no gifts are being sent to .gov or .edu emails, the Policy Center can help.

Additionally, the Policy Center can help:

  • Set guardrails that automatically apply every time a gift is sent.
  • Block sends to personal email domains, cap gift values, restrict certain categories (like alcohol)
  • Choose whether a policy blocks a send outright or pauses it for your review.

This feature is currently only available for Enterprise plans. To discuss plan options, please contact your Account Manager. Read more about plans here

To find the Policy Center, click on Settings in the Menu drop-down at the top of your Sendoso account. Then, on the left, click Policy Center.

Policy Types

When you create a new policy, the first step is to choose which type you'd like to create. Here are the three options:

  1. Restricted Domains: This type will enable you to block sends to specific email domains like gmail.com or hotmail.com, etc.  You can also block "top level" domains like gov or edu for more coverage.
  2. Gift Restrictions: This type will enable you to prevent certain send types and send categories from being sent to recipients. For example, if you'd like to block sends containing alcohol or event tickets, choose this type of policy.
  3. Dollar Limit Per Send: This type will enable you to set a limit on how much money senders can spend on a per-send basis, regardless of how much money they have in their account balance.

Policy Violation Notifications

As soon as a user submits a send that triggers a policy violation, they will receive a pop-up message letting them know that their send was either blocked or paused due to policy restrictions.

Blocked Message:

Send Paused Message:

They can then go to the Send Tracker to get more information about why that send was blocked or paused.

If they click into the Send Details, they'll see the policy that prevented the send from going through under the new Policy Violations section.

If a send is paused, Admin/Manager users will get email notifications alerting them to take action on a paused send.

Reviewing Paused Sends

If your policy pauses a send instead of blocking it, you'll have the ability to review, approve or cancel that send from the Send Tracker page.

From this page, you can either review the send by clicking into the Send Details page, approve or cancel the send by clicking the 3 dots.

Best Practices and Recipes

Use Naming Conventions

  • Employ naming conventions if you plan to have many policies. If you plan to have different policies for each team within your account, naming conventions can help to keep everything organized. For example, Team name: Policy Description is a great naming convention structure.

Communicate Policies to your Senders

  • Since this is a new feature, we recommend communicating new policies with your team to avoid any possible confusion when a send is blocked or paused.

Separate your Gift Restriction policies so they're easy to edit

  • Don't combine a ton of different gift restrictions under one policy. For example, if you want to block alcohol sends and event tickets, create two separate policies - one for each. This will make it easy to turn off any policies if your organization's rules change in the future.

Blocking entire product types can cause confusion

  • For gift restriction policies, opt to block or pause gift categories over product types. For example, if you want to block alcohol gifts from being sent, do not check the "Marketplace" option under the Product Type section. Instead, block the Alcohol category under the Category Restrictions section. If you select Marketplace, every Marketplace gift will be blocked, not just alcohol gifts.

FAQs

Why can't I add ".gov" to my domain restrictions?

For top level domains, you can remove the "." from your entry. Once you add just "gov", you should be able to save your policy.

Is there a limit to how many policies I can make?

No! There is currently no limit to the number of policies.
